160″ Main Frame Eight Point Video & Story

Accurate Persistence…

Nice buck harvested while coming to water during the rut Matt Holmes went back to back on phenomenal bucks! Last year, Matt hunted opening week of the season and was lucky enough to harvest a beautiful main frame 12 point. This year, Matt hunted the middle of November during the peak of the rut here in Pike County, IL. On the fourth day of his hunt, he was hunting over a secluded pond when this massive main-frame eight pointer came in to get a drink.

This hunt highlights the persistence needed this time of year when targeting mature bucks.  Knowing when and where to sit is the epitome of whitetail hunting and this buck was a frequent visitor to this pond.  Knowing when to be persistent is just as important as knowing when NOT to be. After several days of rain and changing winds, the conditions were finally right. Matt committed to a long walk to the stand and an all-day sit. The hunt ended with a great shot just after two o’clock in the afternoon, dropping the buck where it stood! This buck scored 161 inches, just a few inches bigger than his 2023 buck!

Congrats Matt on another giant buck and great job guiding Silas Greening!
