Upland Bird Hunting

This was our 2nd trip for upland hunting. This trip was even better than the 1st! Sunset Valley Lodge was amazing! Great guide and dogs. Even more birds!! If anyone books the double premium hunts and doesn't get a lot of birds, its because they can't shoot! :) Michael Andrus, LA, November 9-12, 2020.

The lodge accommodations were very good. The hunting was very fun and the overall experience was great. The food for all the meals was just incredible! The best roast beef, gravy & corn casserole I have ever had! The desserts were just amazing! The cinnamon rolls and pancakes were the best I’ve ever has as well! The recreation room was a great after hunt relaxation area. Very well done operation.

Snow goose/Upland Combo Hunt. Excellent lodge and hunt. All the guides and staff were great individuals, very friendly and helpful. The amount of game exceeded my expectations. I am planning a return trip and would highly recommend the lodge to anyone.

Great trip and meeting. I have not stayed at Heartland Lodge in 20 years and it has only improved since my wife and I was last there. This was my first hunt and it could not have been any better. I will check on rates for another hunt for me and my son and possibly an overnight stay for my wife and I. Thanks for a great trip, I will be back.

From my first contact via email to the final good-bye hugs, my experience with Harpole's Heartland Lodge was first rate.  Since I am new to upland bird hunting I knew I would need some "hand holding". The staff at the lodge was so friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and as helpful as I could want.  The food is delicious and plentiful and my room was clean and cozy.  All in all, the best time ever!

You all outdo yourselves every year.  Always look forward to this hunt every year with my son, Eric. Thanks for your hospitality!

Melissa and Stephanie were especially friendly and fun.  Food was great and plenty of it. Rooms were spacious and the entire lodge is spotless! Dogs & guide were as good as it gets.  Birds flew well too. Overall terrific upland hunting experience.

Overall great experience.  From the lodge to the  birds, I give my highest approval. I would absolutely recommend this to every hunter.

Food was great, staff excellent, and dogs were awesome--some of the best I have been around.

This was my 2nd year consecutively hunting upland birds at Heartland Lodge.  Its a fantastic experience hunting a variety of birds: bobwhite, quail, and pheasant.  The birds are excellent flyers and the bird dogs are second to none.  Also, the hunting grounds are very diversified to make the hunts challenging and exciting.  Heartland lodge is truly a hunting paradise hunting upland birds.

We really enjoyed our all too brief visit.  The food, accommodations, and amenities were great. The hunting was fantastic, largely due to the excellent guides and their terrific dogs. The boys are already clamoring for another visit just as soon as we can. Thank you to Gary and Wanda for making us feel so welcome.

This is one of the most relaxing trips I have taken in years. Our guide, Terry, was the best. He made me feel as if we had been friends for years.  His dogs were awesome, I could have not hunted and just watched his dogs. The lodge we stayed in was beautiful and relaxing.  Meals were outstanding and the staff was professional and friendly.

Tim is an outstanding and authoritative guide. He can identify ducks on the wing that I cant ID until they're in my hand.  I greatly enjoyed being guided by Tim.

This was my 34th wedding anniversary gift to my wife.  It was her first time hunting and Terry did a great job making it an unbelievable experience. The meals and staff made you feel right at home.

This was my first trip to Heartland Lodge and it was truly a great adventure! The bird hunting, guide, accommodations, food, and personnel were second to none.  I have been an avid upland bird hunter for 50 years including hunting in South Dakota, Idaho, New Mexico, Minnesota, etc.  Hunting upland birds at Heartland Lodge was the most enjoyable of all, especially bagging unlimited birds.  My guide, Brad Kelly, was outstanding because of his knowledge and experience and his dogs performed like vacuum cleaners!  I am looking forward to hunting here next fall.

We enjoyed our guide, Terry, very much.  Personable, professional, and heart warming.  His dogs, Doc, Stan, and Ben, were great.  The food and kitchen personnel were wonderful.  We had the opportunity  to eat food prepared unlike that we find in our area.

The staff was very friendly. Willing to talk. It was like visiting family!  Terry, our guide, was like a brother, joking, laughing, and working very hard for the best hunting experience possible.  Lodge is beautiful, the property was spacious and offered far more than just hunting. The facilities are great. The hunt is awesome, but what makes this lodge my absolute favorite is how special they treat you.  Terry our guide, and the food, oh my, the food is the best ever! You could come, just for the food! I also want to say that Terry our guide, is the best. We came 10 years ago and Terry was our guide then too! I was so excited to bring my son with me this time and have Terry and his son helping us.  None of our party will ever forget this hunt. This lodge makes wonderful memories!

The staff & owner, Gary Harpole, made my son's first hunting trip memorable! Our guide Kim was very thoughtful & methodical about all aspects of the hunting experience. He spent a lot of time explaining things to my son. The rooms & dining were over the top. The lodge had a very high end accommodation but with a very family focused environment! If you are looking for a hunting experience I would give the lodge 5 stars! We are planing are next trip back already!!
